'Tache debate: fin.
When not at Kenwood, John was generally to be found either at Abbey Road, or else at one of the other Beatles' houses. Here are two shots of him at Cavendish Avenue in April, 1967.
What's more, Lizzie Bravo has provided the answer to the tache debate which has been tragically raging on this blog for some minutes. Paul shaved his on May 5, 1967, and John shaved his on June 8, 1967. She recorded this in her diary, and has a photo of the newly shaven John and herself outside EMI on that very day.
Merci to Bruno Dupont once again for these.

what a shock to see these two photos scanned! i have been very careful not to send them to anyone, as i am saving them for the book, but we used to trade photos with our friends and even make copies for those who had nothing to trade. many of these people were american tourists and i know some of these photos have ended up with dealers. anyway, the story behind them: the top one was taken by a friend with my camera on april 19, 1967. that is my arm, john is holding a photo i had just given him and i am taking a black and white photo of him with a minox camera my father had let me use. that was the camera james bond used in his movies at the time. john said "it's a spy camera, you're all spies these days...". the other one was taken by a young reporter with my camera. he had come to interview john and paul (mick jagger was there too) and had no camera, so i let him use mine. being the typical teenager, i didn't write down his name nor number. we found each other recently by coincidence: a friend of mine was in line waiting to go into a paul concert in london, overheard him tell this story and told him she knew the girl who had lent him the camera. we are now good internet pals. the date, according to my diary, is march 31, 1967.
ReplyDeleteaccording to several sources, April 19th was when the four signed the papers creating Apple. John later claimed he couldn't remember signing them
ReplyDeleteMarch 31st was when they started mixing Sgt. Pepper.
