The Beatles: All These Years Volume 1.

The cover is oot! In related news, Amazon UK have cut the pre-order price on the standard edition, as expected, and it has also now appeared on the Amazon US site HERE.

Nice!

UPDATE: A heads up for US/Canadian readahs. It's been revealed that the massive "deluxe" edition is only being issued in the UK, for the time being at least, the US publisher having opted to issue the standard edition alone. There is no news about how limited the deluxe is (though it is limited), nor whether there is any likelihood of it ever being reprinted if/when it sells out. However, the tome has jumped to first place in the UK Amazon chart for Beatles-related books, presumably as readahs from across the "pond" get their pre-orders in to ensure obtaining a copy.
There's also no news about whether a non-English language deluxe edition is being published anywhere (I suppose Japan might be a possibility), but anyone prevaricating over splashing oot might do well to bear the above in mind.

  1. There's no two ways about it... that cover is absolutely atrocious. Little Brown's art department should be fired.

Embarrassingly for Lewisohn, this looks infinitely worse than any of the dodgy bio's he's keen to relegate to the dustbin. I can't believe he'd be happy with this (witness his displeasure at the artwork for the reissued "Recording Sessions" book a couple of years back).

Thankfully, the old "can't judge a book by.." maxim will no doubt be proved correct here.

Nevertheless, this is a major work and it deserves a cover to match. Instead, this looks like an ad for a discount supermarket chain. The image on the US Amazon page is much better, but that looks to be temporary.

  2. Very excited to get my hands on this - it's been a very long time coming, so judging by his previous books I can only imagine the crazy depth of detail that he's gone to here! Roll on autumn!

  3. I take it Mark is not Mark. I was a little surprised myself that they didn't choose a juicy previously unseen photo for the cover, but, I dunno, I think it's OK.
The contents are the thang, though, as you say. Amazon has the "flap" blurb up now too, for example: "Using impeccable research and resources, Tune In is a magisterial work, an independent biography that packs energy, clarity, objectivity, authority and insight. The text is anti-myth, and tight and commanding like the Beatles themselves - the reader is kept ever at the heart of the action, in among all the incisive characters and moments. Here is the Beatles story as it really was. Throw away what you think you know and start afresh."
    Which all sounds very exciting.
Encouragingly, the standard edition is showing up as the number 1 seller in the category "Beatles" on Amazon, with the deluxe edition at number 3.

  4. Btw I notice the US edition has a different publisher, so it may well have a different cover.
