Yet more tache: May/June, 1967.

It's unusual to see John tached-up sans "grannys". Assuming (possibly wrongly) that these were all taken at the same time, it must have been between May 5 and June 8, for tache-related reasons which have been gone into, in too much detail, already.
One possibility is that they are from the Speakeasy, on either May 24 or the early hours of June 1. Gary Brooker, of Procol Harum, who was playing the Speakeasy on the 24th, doesn't recall the Beatles being there, although it is listed in a lot of the tomes. He spake thusly: "I don't know if they were down the Speakeasy when we played. I only remember Jimi Hendrix being there, so...they could have been sneaking around in the background." Hmmm.
By contrast, members of the Turtles actively recall seeing the Beatles at the Speakeasy on the second date.
Then again, it may well be neither of those (possibly one of the other clubs?). Whatever, whenever and wherever, it's fairly clear that Ringo has slightly overdone it.

  1. What 'tache-related' reasons? Don't recall hearing anything about those....

  4. They were indeed. And we have Lizzie to thank for the date of John's tache...err..."shavage".
John's tache has become a recurring theme on these pages, which is not something I was anticipating.

  5. Ah, right! Thought I'd covered every page on this blog, but obviously not...:)

I've always wondered about the precise date the taches disappeared. I believe Paul was the first to grow his (out of necessity, after motorcyle accident) and that the others followed suit...then John and Paul's vanished round about the time of AYNIL.

Nice to see Across The Universe singer Lizzie on here! :)

  6. Ken Wood of the Bootleg Zone is the man to talk to on this subject - he is the tache aficianado...and yes, always good to see Lizzie on here.

  7. hi richard! i love this blog and look at it every day. i just found 3 photos of the inside of kenwood that a friend of mine took. i am going to write her and ask her permission to tell her story and scan the photos. fingers crossed! and i still have a ton of kenwood photos to scan for you guys... nothing spectacular, just every angle of the outside of the house a teenager could capture with her cheap imitation of an instamatic camera (bought at boots). i also have a ton of black and white pix taken with my father's minox camera. regards from a glorious morning in rio de janeiro!
