Kenwood: more apparel.

Three more items of clothing that have turned up at auction. The dressing gown was sold by Dot Jarlett, the Lennons' housekeeper. Has anyone got a photo of her? Again, I've never seen one. Then the none-more-60s boots, and the robe which was bought when the Beatles went to Greece in 1967 in order to purchase an island. More island related stuff soon.

Kenwood: west side.

A portion of a fanpic from the 60s, and another comp from 1993. From this angle, Kenwood looks much the same today. Note the sunroom to the left. Again, thanks to Russ Lease for taking this, and Joe Baiardi for passing it on.

Master bedroom: 1965.

Originally tagged as the nursery, there wasn't one, as it turns out, and the best guess is that these were actually taken in the master bedroom - see later post for long, tedious explanation.

One Virgin: Montagu Square, 1968 & 1984.

It seems every other post I do mentions the wanton destruction of Beatles-related "heritage" in this country. And why not? I don't necessarily reckon that all such destruction is a bad thing. That is the way of it - as some Wacker or other once said, all things must pass. And John would probably have been first on the wrecking ball at Kenwood. He hated the place.
34 Montagu Square, however, looks the same from the outside; I once was shown round by the old gent who took on the lease post-Ringo, though being a species of idiot I neglected to take photos.
The final scan is a bit of the front step, which I noticed had fallen off, and thus, for want of a better expression, got nicked. Also here, as you may have noticed, one of the original prints for the Two Virgins sleeve, taken in Montagu Square in the bedroom. It is a bit full-on. But that was them. Let's not make a big thing of it. Etc.

West Malling: airfield.

Looking through some old "analogue" photos this evening, I came across a few that I took at West Malling Air Station (scene of I Am The Walrus), circa 1984 (pics 3 & 4 in this post). As you can see from the satellite image, the whole area was razed to the ground in the 90s and is now completely unrecognisable as the scene of that bit of MMT. Also here, a fanpic of John in Soho during the editing of MMT (thanks to Bruno Dupont) plus a couple showing the Beatles "editing" said film. No comment required, I think. (What, you may ask, does this have to do with Kenwood? Nothing much, aside from the fact that John would have been driven to West Malling each day from Kenwood.)

Daytrips: Poole & Bournemouth, 1967.

John bought a bungalow on Panorama Road in Poole for his Aunt Mimi in 1965. He would regularly drive down from Kenwood to visit her, sometimes staying for a few days. Here they are, shortly after getting off the nearby Bournemouth ferry in early 1967. Also, a pic of Mimi sitting on John's favourite spot behind the house. The bungalow was sold after Mimi's death in 1992, and has since, inevitably, been demolished.(John also bought houses or flats for Pete Shotton (as part of the supermarket block on Hayling Island) and his art school friend Jonathan Hague (in Leamington in 1967, which Hague still owns)). Apologies for the poor comp - if anyone has anything better, get in touch!

Kenwood: east side - 1993 & 1967/68.

Another composite pic, taken by Russ Lease and sent on by Joe Baiardi. Again, this one dates from 1993, and shows how little changed Kenwood was at that time. The unique perspective this pic affords has also made me realise that the first two black and white ones were posted the wrong way round - so here they are again, corrected.

Not Kenwood: but Sunny Heights, 1966/1967 & 2006.

The first pic of John from 1967 is often mis-labelled as being taken at Kenwood. In fact, it wasn't taken there - but rather down the road at Sunny Heights. (Bear with me on this.) Compare the first four pics - John is actually standing outside the rear entrance to Ringo's house. You can see the same spot in the photos of Ringo from '66, behind him. Also note the lion - here is John again, this time also in 1966, sitting on it. The next pic shows the whole back end of Sunny Heights - this one (along with many others) mis-labelled in the Bob Spitz book. Compare with the picture of the Beatles taken the same day as the first John one. Finally, a 2006 pic and two screen-grabs from a similarly dated YouTube video (Joe Baiardi again - thank you) showing the house looking very similar, plus the same area as the John photo and a close-up of the rear door. Whether it is still there now, I know not.

Sunny Heights: then and now number 2.

Two pics which show the extensive changes that have also taken place at Sunny Heights. The first one shows the front of the property, the second the rear, but you can see that what amounts to a new house has been tacked on the side. Note Ringo's Mini in the car park. More (and possibly too much more) Sunny Heights on the way...

Weybridge (or London) & Kinfauns: John, George & Ringo - Minis.

Assuming no PhotoShop monkeying around, two shots of John actually driving his Mini. If they are legit, I'd say taken around April or May 1968. Plus a great pic of Ringo in his Mini at Kinfauns, and George in front of his, also at Kinfauns. For more pics and Beatles Mini info (they all had at least one, you know), go HERE.
