Wapping Pier Head: more Wapping.
More from Bert Kleersnijder's splendid MDO revisit. Of most interest, perhaps, are those Then & Nows from the non-public side of the garden (and note too the rarely aired uncropped version of this 'un):
So those buildings on the corner there are new. I'd also never seen a present day shot of this location, until now:
The dockside area of Wapping was subject to massive reconstruction in the '80s and '90s; note how the big colonial warehouses behind are all gone now (though some buildings on the other side of the Thames seem to have survived):
Getting all this reconstruction off to a flying start were John and Ringo...:
...who, ever helpful, booted things off via the medium of smashing things with pickaxes:
Many thanks to Bert for sharing these, and yet more to come too.
Good to see the tree in the top photo doing well. Though I think I might need a hand getting that bollard in the boot.
ReplyDeleteLove this Blog! Going to a wedding party there and will have to take photo leaning on that bollard a la GH
ReplyDeleteOnly taken me 8 months to reply. Wedding party was super. A whole pig was eaten. Not sure Paul would have approved but there you are. Funnily enough the lady whose flat is in the background was round for lunch the other day and I said I thought that Bollard that George is leaning on is different now but she said it was not because it is a now a grade 1 listed building. However bollard could have changed before the listing. Ephemera perhaps but would be interested to know whether those photographs ever came into the fray when listing was being considered.
