Interior pictures of Cavendish Avenue are fairly rare, but here's one of John and Yoko in the living room, in 1969. This room, overlooking the familiar back garden steps, was where the Beatles met before recording sessions or other Beatle business pre-Apple. On March 21, 1967, it also saw a visit from the Emperor of Eternity... apparently.
great photos! the one of john sitting down in paul's back yard was taken by a young man who went inside to interview john and paul one afternoon - mick jagger was visiting that day. i was outside and we were talking while he waited to go inside. he didn't have a camera so i lent him mine. that john photo was the last frame in the film, which he gave back to me when he came out. i gave him an extra film which he also used. both of us being teenagers, we never wrote down each other's names and phone numbers. a couple of years ago a friend of mine was waiting to go into one of paul's concerts in london and overheard a man telling that story. she told him she knew the girl who had lent him the camera. i called him from rio and we have been friends ever since. i sent him a perfect scan of the photo, which he had never seen!
ReplyDeleteThe photo of John was truly taken on March 21? That's fantastic because if so, it would have been that very evening, during the recording of vocals for "Getting Better," that John, sick from a bad acid trip, was taken by an innocent George Martin to the roof of Abbey Road, whence he was immediately rescued by clued-in Paul and George. The incident occurred while Hunter Davies was in the studio taking notes for his biography (he describes it in the book); it is also detailed in Lewisohn's "Recording Sessions." John already looks a little sick in this shot; maybe the bad trip had already begun.
