Bamiyan's Beatles Archive (link under Friends & Neighbours) has uncovered some more Kenwood footage from June 1968. Apparently, a crew from the BBC were also there on the day that the Smile and Two Virgins films were made. Above is a still showing John sitting in the sunroom - the same time/place as the home movie footage (incidentally, that clip is back up now: Is he playing the Ramirez acoustic?).
I've now given up thinking that the supply of Kenwood related material must be finite.
In the home movie footage -coincidentally, where the Fool piano is shown- he is playing his Ramírez 1A, not Harrison's Ramírez Student Model. While stolling around the pool he is shown playing his Martin D-28 -the one he took to Rishikesh- now with the pickguard removed, which means that the finish was also removed at this point. If this is indeed May 1968 then the Casino had also had its finish removed, as shown at the "Goodnight" sessions photos.

ReplyDeleteYes. At least not until November 1968. It is seen for the first time in John's hands in the photo at Yoko's Queen Charlotte's Hospital room (the Unfinished Music No.2: Life with the Lions photo).
ReplyDeleteThe home movie clip you link to seems to be from May, it shows the making of the short movie "Smile", and Yoko can be seen around. But the music ("Everybody's Had a Hard Year")is from December 1968 and probably from late September/early October 1968 ("Julia"). The footage seems to be silent, and has had many "soundtrack" added to it. Check this:

And here he playing Harrison's Ramírez Student Model. So, if there ever was a swap it would have taken place between May and November 1968, or when Cyn was moving out.
