Altona, Hamburg: Astrid Kircherr's loft.

Rather melancholy photos, taken in Astrid's loft in Hamburg. After Stuart Sutcliffe died, John asked Astrid to take a couple of pics of him in the same spot as the one of Stuart - the first Beatle related then and now shots, in effect. Astrid was a great photographer, and all her Hamburg photos of the Beatles, which tend towards a certain dark quality, are worth seeking out.

  1. Astrid took wonderful pics! I think she used a 'Rolleflex' camera + shutter cable attachment?
Ken, Maybe John was inspired by Stu's tachist work or similar whilst painting his charity christmas card? Stu's tachist-impastos are similar to John's collage..?

  3. I think there may be some multi-Ken confusion going on.

  4. I was triggered by "tachist work", thinking this relates to my tache-obsession. But maybe it`s a word with more than one meaning?
