John: circa 1945 & 1967.

A contact sheet of photos of John dating from around the start of his illustrious academic career in 1945, and then another one from 22 years later. The '67 contact sheet is from the famous Richard Avedon session in August of that year, around the same time as the candid shots of John with the Fool in the sunroom. Avedon photographed the Beatles at Thompson House, later the venue for the first round of Mad Day Out photos, where the Beatles wore capes, crash helmets, goggles etc, and exposed their foreheads for the first time, or so contemporary tabloid reports had it. Little did they know that John was about to expose rather more.
