"On the day I was asked by my father to bring some legal papers to John who was home for the holidays. A driver was arranged to take me on the short ride from London to John's home in Weybridge. I arrived there in the early afternoon and was directed by a servant to the back of the house. John was sitting alone outside on the deck making out his Christmas cards for some of the closest friends and family. His hair was short -- recently cut for his role in How I Won The War - and he was wearing his famous wire-rim glasses. He rose to greet me and thanked me for making the trip out. We chatted for a short time and he asked about my family. Before leaving he allowed me to snap a few photos of him signing his Christmas greetings." Photo and text copyright Shaun Weiss.
