Chapel Street: May 19, 1967.
Just for the hell of it, here he is again the following day at the Sgt Pepper press party at Brian's house in Chapel Street. Many commentators claim John looked haggard, old and ill at this party, but the pics don't really bear this out. He does look freaky (and I speak as a Scotsman, for whom the sporran holds no fear) - but good freaky. However, the red wine was flowing, not to mention whatever else, and John was clearly feeling no pain when asked his opinion of the Monkees: "The Monkees? Great, man! Let 'em dig the Monkees. Let 'em dig their cuddly mop-tops till they change their minds. The Monkees are up there to be screamed at. We're busy now, just living, and we're in such a groove!" Quite so.
